About the projects

SAS is offering customers the opportunity to counter balance the CO₂ emissions from their flight to net zero in order to make it CarbonNeutral®. Working with The CarbonNeutral Company, SAS has put together a portfolio of wind projects based in China, India and New Zealand.

Wind power provides a cleaner alternative to fossil fuel because it doesn’t generate CO₂ or other greenhouse gases. However, wind farms need to generate and sell carbon credits in order to be financially viable and compete with the lower cost coal power plants. Through the sale of carbon credits, such as those associated with this CarbonNeutral® flights programme, these projects are provided with additional funds and therefore become financially viable. In order for a wind farm to sell carbon credits and to guarantee their quality, they must complete a programme of verification and validation by a third party industry standard.
